Napster Alternatives
Audiogalaxy – Audiogalaxy
is a very good alternative to Napster, Audiogalaxy is also space saving and it
has most songs that people are looking for.
Available for Windows 95/98/NT/2000/ME
Imesh – in this Napster-like program, you can download more than just mp3 and wma files! You can download images, other sorts of audio, and also videos. Some disadvantages of Imesh are that it may take hours or even minutes for the program to start downloading the songs and if you try to download an audio/video/image for a long time and you restart the program several times, the download won’t continue. Available for Windows 95/98/NT/2000/ME

Audio Players and Image Viewers
Windows
Media Player 7.1 – Windows Media Player 7 is the default media player in
Windows Millennium Edition. Windows
Media Player has nice features such as skin-able interface, automatic search
for cd information if your listening to a cd on Windows Media Player *note –
if you are using a burned cd, it will not find information on the cd*,
plays radio stations from all over the world, including in some locations in
Canada, mp3/wma/mpeg/video and many other audio/video formats are
supported. The only disadvantages of
Windows Media Player 7 is that it takes up too much ram space and hogs up
resources and it may freeze at times. Available for Windows 98/2000/ME, and
Macintosh. Click here to

Apple
QuickTime 5.0.2 –
Currently the most popular image viewer used by Windows and Macintosh
Computers, the handy features are that QuickTime views most kinds of image
associations that Macs and PCs are familiar with and opens them instantly. I’m not really a fan of QuickTime because
the Audio Player freezes all the time and the image quality may be poor at
times, and its recommended by most PC users, to use alternative audio players
when playing mp3s because it doesn’t support all mp3 files. Available for most versions of Windows and
Macintosh

ACDSee
– This image viewer is one of the best image viewers that I have seen so
far. It offers Zoom in/Zoom out, a
“Windows Explorer like” part of the program to search for images on your
computer manually, and you are able to make the image you are viewing into the
background wall paper, you can add it to your favorites, and you can convert
the image file to another image file association. Available for Windows 95/98/2000/ME and Macintosh 8.6
Music
Match – This audio player is quite similar too Windows Media Player 7, it enables
you to add your favorite songs to a “play list”, you are able to copy songs
onto a cd, you are able to listen to online music on Music Match, and there are
many more features that are also included with it. The HP Cd Writer (cd burner) includes Music Match software. Available for Windows 95/98/2000/ME and also
available for Macintosh 8.5

Winamp – This audio player is the #1
audio player in the world, its quality of audio is better than Windows Media
Player, Winamp is a small download compared to most audio player download
sizes, and Winamp takes up very little disk space, but you can add on other
features later including game support, AOL
Messenger (AIM) support, movie support, and much more. On Windows Media Player’s Bonus Pack, you
are able to import Winamp’s skin files so you can have the look of winamp on
Windows Media player. You can download
skins for Winamp at www.winamp.com and
many other sites!
