Software
Packages that is recommended or good to buy
This
software suite issued by Microsoft features Microsoft Word 2000, Microsoft
Works 2001, Picture it! Publishing 2001, Microsoft Encarta 2001, Microsoft
Money 2001, and Microsoft Streets & Trips 2001. This Package is good for the whole family; Word 2000 is good to
create your own web pages within only minutes, and also excellent for Word
Processing, letter envelopes, To-do lists, recipes, and much much more! Microsoft
Works 2001 is very similar to Microsoft Word 2000, in Microsoft Works 2001, you
can create spreadsheets, data bases, envelopes and letters, word processing, a
little program that stays on your desktop so you can drag images off of the
internet and create a database of images, you are able to edit the name, info
and delete/add images that you want, and this is handy for people who don’t
like to save images by right clicking on the document and going through that
whole process. Picture It! Publishing
2001 is a program that lets you create fancy cards, template web pages,
newsletters for friends and family about what’s new in your life, and much much
more. Microsoft Encarta is an on
electronic encyclopedia that has information about companies such as Apple
Computers, to people such as Jimi Hendrix, this is a good product to use for
researching on a famous person for a school project or just looking up a word
in the build in dictionary. Microsoft
Money 2001 is a program that keeps track of all your earnings and loses for
your small business or for your monthly/daily/yearly budget; it’s also a good
way to keep track of all your bills and payments that you have received. Microsoft Streets & Trips 2001 is an electronic
mapping system that has maps of places such as Manitoba or Canada, and
worldwide, and you can also zoom in to view the directions in a city, it works
as good as a regular map but it saves you the time to find where you want to
go, and you can also save a map as an HTML document and save it over the
internet.
This Package sells for about $130-160 CDN and is found at
most computer stores/software stores, but it is an EXCELLENT deal because
Microsoft Word on its own is worth $180, and Works sells for about $60, so you
save quite a bit of money!

This
operating system is soon to be the operating system to replace Windows 95, 98,
ME, 2000, and NT, this operating system features a fresh “new” look, for
beginners and people who don’t know ANYTHING about computers, Windows XP (aka
eXPerience or 2002), has a look said to look too much like the new operating
system by apple computers because of the colours and fresh new look, but some
people enjoy the new look, although I feel that there should be skins included
(similar to themes), there will be the well known classic theme that has been
used on Windows since 1995.
The brand new features included in
Windows XP are: Windows Messenger 4 (replacing MSN Messenger), Media Player for
Windows XP (formerly known as Windows Media Player), a built in firewall to
protect you from hackers, an integrated Zip program to make a file more compact
when you are sending it over the internet (ex via messenger or chat). There will be two versions of Windows XP out
to buy, which is a home version and a professional version, the home version is
more into gaming, audio/video, and internet, while the professional is more
into security, productivity, etc for businesses. If you use Windows NT or 2000, you won’t be able to upgrade to
the home version, you have to upgrade to the Professional edition, but
altogether, both of them have most of the same features.
Windows XP will be out on October 25, 2001, and there is
currently a beta program out you sign up through Microsoft to get a special 180-day
trial of the operating system for only about $9 US.
